Pumice stone

CA$14.99

Type of tool: dry scraper and finishing tool

Use with: any dry hide in a frame or out of a frame + use to maintain and clean tanned leathers and buckskins over time

A pumice tool is your secret weapon to pristine hides. Use when a hide is at least 90% dry if not totally dry to slough of remaining membrane and create a polished look, while simultaneously breaking in any last stubborn fibres in the skin. A pumice will transform a shabby looking hide into something beautiful.

A pumice stone is volcanic ‘rock’ found in

Tool use: Hold in the palm of your hand and press the pumice stone against a hide with 7/10 pressure. Move in circles or up and down, whatever is comfortable. It acts like sandpaper. Use on the membrane side of any hide. Use on the grain side of hides that have been grained. Do not use on intact grain - it will scratch the grain. If you notice scratches appear in your hide, apply less pressure.
